Abstract

Vibration testing in industry  is important to be carried out to identify vibration charateristics, namely natural frequency, mode shape, and damping ratio. However, error in vibration testing is frequently happened during experiment which  may provide inaccurate data. There are some factors affecting error on vibration testing including time record length, line frequency, and accelerometer sensor placement. Therefore, the effect of sensor placement on structure will be considered in this paper. In order to obtain the result, comparison between simulation and vibration testing will be carried out. Considered structure used in this research is cantilever with dimensions of 100mm x 520mm and thickness of 15mm. Simulation will be modelled by finite element method. Then, vibration testing on cantilever is using Scope coder integrating to accelerometer sensor with Frequeny Response Function (FRF) method. The results show that error between simulation and vibration testing appears. The highest error of 19.05% appears at first mode and the lowest error of 0.14% appears at eigth mode. Moreover, the sensor placement on cantilever dominantly influence the captured vibration signal.
