Abstract

Ceramic roller has been frequenntly used in furnace as a conveyor due to heat resistance and
wear resistance. Roller consists of ceramic sleeve and steel shaft connected by shrink fitting. Shrink
fitting ratio between sleeve and shaft is defined as ?/d, where ? is diameter difference and d is inner
diameter of sleeve. Since thermal coefficient of steel is about four times larger than one of ceramic,
stress and and contact separation between ceramic sleeve and steel shaft should be considered.
Because larger fitting ratio can increase stress on the contact area and small fitting ratio causes
coming out of the shaft. First, shrink fitting ratio and contact length are investigated. In this paper,
four proposed models are considered, namley Model A, Model B, Model C, and Model D. Models
are analized by using finite element model. As result, coming out incrases by decreases shrink fitting
ratio. Moreover, Model D is the most suitable model for ceramic roller used in the furnace.
