Abstract

This study aimed to describe and to find out the products and the impacts of collage arts of mussel skins in SBdP subject as an implementation of environmental awareness of the 4th grade students of SDN 85 Seluma. This study was a qualitative descriptive study, with observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The subjects were the entire 4th grade involving 20 students. The instrument used in this study was human instrument. The techniques for collecting data included observation, interview, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using an interactive model. The results from 20 collage arts showed that there were 6 elements involving point element applied by using mussel skins on the patterns, line element applied to make the patterns, shape element in non-geometric or irregular shape, color element applied on the background/frame and the natural color of mussel skins, two-dimension shape element which did not have volume, and rough texture element. There were 4 principles including rhythm principle in the mussel skin arranging process, balance principle in good repetition, unity principle seen from the order of mussel skin arrangement, and cynosure principle showing the characteristic of each student’s art. The impacts of the mussel skin collage arts making process were the students worked hard on protecting nature, more appreciated health and cleanliness, were wise in using Natural Sources, and were responsible for the environment.
