Abstract

The area of degraded land in Indonesia reaches 14006450 ha, which is located inside the forest area and outside the forest area. The Center for Watershed Management and Protected Forests (BPDASHL) is an institution tasked with rehabilitating degraded land in Indonesia. The species of seedlings provided determines the diversity and composition of the species of vegetation that make up the rehabilitated land. The aims of this study were to determine: 1) the diversity and composition of the species of seedlings provided by BPDASHL Serayu Opak Progo in 2014, 2016 and 2017, 2) the reasons for choosing the species and categories of land to be planted. Data were collected through a questionnaire given to the BPDASHL and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that BPDASHL Serayu Opak Progo provided 48 species of seedlings consisting of 29 introduced species and 19 native species. The Shannon species diversity index (H') ranged from 1.68 to 2.63. The most abundant species was Paraserianthes falcataria, followed by Acacia auriculiformis which belongs to the Fabaceae family. The main reason for choosing the type is that the price of seedlings are affordable and the species are liked by the community. All seedlings are planted outside the forest area.
