Abstract

Conflicts between humans and Sumatran tigers can have impacts on humans and Sumatran tigers, such as material losses and life losses. This research was conducted to identify the types of conflicts, mitigation efforts carried out by the community and find out the public's perception of human conflicts with Sumatran tigers. Data collection was carried out through interviews with questionnaire guides on five key informants obtained using the Snowball  sampling method which will answer the purpose of identifying the types of conflicts and mitigation efforts carried out by the community and 43 respondents who were selected using the accidental sampling method.  which answers the purpose of understanding the public's perception of human conflict and the Sumatran Tiger. The respondents were the people of Limas Jaya Hamlet, which is included in the HPK Air Urai Serangai and HPT Air Ketahun areas. The results showed that human and Sumatran tiger conflicts (Panthera tigris sumatrae) are classified as type 1 and 2, namely tigers detected around settlements or fields with the discovery of traces, sounds, residual prey and their attendance at   Limas Jaya Hamlet, causing fear. Even, the  tigers preying on pets or livestock. Namely 1 goat belonging to key informants  had been killed and cause losses. Mitigation efforts on human-tiger conflicts and Sumatran tigers that have been carried out are that the community tends to  overlook the problem, while the government has carried out checks and monitoring during the post-conflict. The public's perception on conflict between humans and Sumatran tigers is at a positive level, namely that the villager agree that human-tiger conflicts is an impact of the damaged of tiger’s habitats, and that there was economically and socio-culturally detrimetal on  villager  of Limas Jaya.
