ABSTRACT
Teluk Sepang Beach has the potential for seaweed, but the identification of its types and percentage of coverage are currently unknown. This research was conducted to provide supporting information for the sustainable use of seaweed by coastal communities in the city of Bengkulu. The research was carried out in October 2021 in the waters of Teluk Sepang Beach, Bengkulu. The objectives of this study were to identify the types of seaweed and analyze the community structure of seaweed in the waters of Teluk Sepang Beach, Bengkulu, including diversity index, uniformity, dominance, density, and percentage coverage. The method used was a survey method, and data collection was done using quadrat transects with a size of 50 x 50 cm. A total of 20 species of seaweed were found, which were classified into three different classes, namely Chlorophyta, Phaeophyta, and Rhodophyta. The highest number of seaweed species was from the Chlorophyta class with 10 species, followed by Rhodophyta with 7 species, and Phaeophyta with 3 species. The percentage coverage of seaweed species at station 1 ranged from 0.15 - 6.50%, at station 2 it ranged from 0.24 - 16.58%, at station 3 it ranged from 0.13 - 15.99%, and at station 4 it ranged from 0.56 - 10.77%. The results of water quality parameter measurements showed that overall, the waters of Teluk Sepang Beach were still within the suitable range to support the growth of seaweed.
