Author Guidelines

Alotrop is a chemistry and chemistry education journal with coverage in chemistry research (analytical, organic, inorganic, physical, and biochemistry), and chemistry education research (R and D in chemistry education, class action research in chemistry, investigation on teaching and learning chemistry and the challenges they face).

Alotrop is an open-access journal with free access to read on the article published. 

Article Preparation

The article should be written using common word processor (e.g MS Word), in Indonesian or in English language, type single column in Times New Roman, font size 12 (except for the title), the page size of A4 with top and bottom margin of 3.5 cm, and left and right margin of 3 cm. The length of the manuscript should be between 7-15 pages.

Article Structure
The article's main heading should use bold font, ALLCAPS without numbering. Main heading sections include ABSTRACT, INTRODUCTION, RESEARCH METHOD, RESULTS AND DISCUSSION, CONCLUSION, ACKNOWLEDGMENT, and REFERENCES. The subheading should use the bold font, title case, and without numbering. 
 
Title
The title should be written in ALLCAPS, Times New Roman, with 14 font, and contain no more than 20 words. Author name and affiliation mark with superscript numbering 1,2, etc., of different author affiliations. The corresponding author marks with superscript asterisk "*". 
 
Abstract
The abstract contains the research goals, method, results and discussion, and conclusion briefly and in a simple manner. The length of the abstract should be between 150-250 words, followed by no more than 5 keywords. 
 
Introduction
Consist of research background, research questions, summary of theoretical supporting ideas, and research purposes. The length should not exceed two pages of the overall article. 
 
Research Method
Provide sufficient information on the time and place of research conducted, population and sample or research subject (if applicable), research method, data collection technique, data analysis technique, instrumentations, etc. 
 
Results and Discussion
The presentation of results and discussion should be clear and concise. The results can be presented using tables and/or figures (charts, images, etc.). Tables and figures should be titled and numbered (above, justified for tables, and below, justified for figures).  Figures should be clear with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, in tiff or JPG format, and should be placed accordingly to the related text. 
 
Conclusion
Contains short/brief information that overall concludes the research. 
 
Acknowledgment
Consist of acknowledgment to grant, collaborator, and/or institution related to the research. 
 
References
The references should be listed in order of appearance in the manuscript. The in-text citation and references should use American Psychological Association (APA) style. It is highly recommended to use the reference manager to organize the reference such as Zotero, Mendeley, or Endnote. The citation from secondary references must not exceed 20% of the overall references, and self-citations (refers to author previously-published research) must not exceed 10% of the overall citations.  
 
Appendices/Supplementary data
Supporting data/information can be submitted in a separate file of the manuscript. 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
